2013 Belk Bowl Events Draw Fans to Uptown Charlotte

5K Run and FanFest Highlighted Game Events

Charlotte, N.C. – The 2013 Belk Bowl and surrounding events brought great crowds to Uptown Charlotte this past weekend. The Inaugural Belk Bowl 5K Run sponsored by Rampage had 629 participants, well exceeding the 400 hoped for by bowl officials in its first year. The event featured a family friendly, football themed run/walk through the streets of Uptown Charlotte benefitting Levine Children's Hospital.

Multi-Grammy nominee and CMA Entertainer of the Year Blake Shelton was the featured act at the 2013 Belk Bowl FanFest, taking place outside the stadium before the game. A crowd of over 50,000 took in the free show and festivities early Saturday afternoon.

“The 2013 Belk Bowl was a success on the field and off,” said Executive Director Will Webb. “Our inaugural Belk Bowl 5k presented by Rampage was a tremendous hit, drawing many more participants than we had hoped for as a new event. And the Belk Bowl Fanfest featuring Blake Shelton also proved to be a smashing hit with over 50,000 taking in the festivities. We thank all of the fans that attended the events and look forward to our next Belk Bowl!”

College football’s only bowl game to call the Carolinas home, the Belk Bowl has averaged over 50,000 fans each year, with three sellouts. In its twelve years, the game has drawn over 630,000 fans to Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte and reached over 30 million television households.

The Charlotte Sports Foundation, a non-profit organization, runs the Belk Bowl and serves as the local organizing committee for the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game.
