Big East Week 12 Wrap Up

UConn (4-6, 2-3) hosted Louisville (6-5, 4-2) Saturday afternoon at Rentschler Field and got whacked by the Cardinals, 34-20. Card QB Teddy Bridgewater continues to improve throwing for 174 yards (14 of 22) and scored two rushing TD’s. CB Adrian Bushell opened the game with a 100-yard kick-off return for a touchdown, which kind of set the tone for the entire game. The Huskies tried to get the game into OT on the final play with a series of laterals but Louisville’s Malcolm Mitchell picked-off the final pitch and returned it 36 yards for a score.

Picked to finish last in the conference’s preseason poll, host Rutgers (8-3, 4-2) beat Cincinnati (7-3, 3-2), 20-3, Saturday afternoon in High Point Solutions Stadium. Frosh RB Jawan Jamison scampered for a career-high 200 yards and 2 TD’s to put the Scarlet Knights in a tie with Louisville for the league title, a half game in front of three others. The loss marked the 2nd straight for the Bearcats who were dominated on both sides of the line. Time of possession was just one example (38:14 to 21:46) as well as total yards (385 to 225). Knights QB Chas Dodd went 19 of 33 for 173 yards in the win.

More was lost than just the game as host USF (5-5, 1-4) fell to Miami, 6-3, but also lost starting QB B.J. Daniels early in the 3rd period to a shoulder injury. The Bulls pass rush was intimidating but couldn’t get the big stop it needed most at the end of the game. USF finished with 11 tackles for loss and six sacks. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get a run game in gear mustering just 116 yards. The pass attack wasn’t impressive either with 133 yards. Miami held the ball often with long drives that ate up the clock but squandered those efforts all too often.
