NASCAR Racing Experience to Give Belk Bowl Players and Coaches ‘Ride of Their Lives’

Belk Bowl Teams Will Hit Speeds of 170 mph at Charlotte Motor Speedway

CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 17, 2013– The Belk Bowl today announced this year’s participating teams will burn rubber during an exhilarating ride at the NASCAR Racing Experience at Charlotte Motor Speedway Dec. 24.   

“NASCAR has its roots in Charlotte and we are proud to be a part of the Belk Bowl,” said Robert Lutz, CEO of NASCAR Racing Experience and Driving 101. “There’s no better way to celebrate a memorable season for these teams than to take the ride of their lives with professional race car drivers.”

Players, coaches and staff will buckle up in stock cars formerly driven by NASCAR stars such as Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Jeff Gordon. During the day, the teams will take turns riding with professional drivers at speeds reaching up to 170 mph and log nearly 1,000 laps.

“We are very excited about this partnership, and the NASCAR Racing Experience will be one of the signature events of the week for the teams visiting the Charlotte area,” said Will Webb, Executive Director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation. “It will complement the exciting events we have planned around the Belk Bowl.”

The 12th Annual Belk Bowl will be played on Saturday, Dec. 28, with a 3:20 p.m. EST kickoff and televised nationally on ESPN. It will be the only bowl game aired during the prime weekend time slot.

The game features a matchup of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the American Athletic Conference (formerly the Big East Conference) and isplayed at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. Multi-Grammy nominee and CMA Entertainer of the Year Blake Shelton will be the featured act at the 2013 Belk Bowl FanFest on Saturday, Dec. 28. The Belk Bowl FanFest is free to the public and will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Shelton scheduled to begin his performance at 1:30 p.m.

The first college bowl game to call the Carolinas home, the Belk Bowl has averaged almost 60,000 fans each year, with three sellouts. In addition, the 2011 game was viewed by more than 15 million people.
