Will Play the University of Cincinnati in Charlotte on Saturday, December 28th

Charlotte, N.C. – The Belk Bowl announced today that the University of North Carolina has accepted an invitation to the 2013 Belk Bowl. North Carolina, from the Atlantic Coast Conference, will face the University of Cincinnati from the American Athletic Conference. The Tar Heels will be making their fourth appearance in the game, and first since 2009.

North Carolina finished the regular season with a 6-6 overall record (4-4 ACC). They won five of their last six games to end the season.

“We are very excited to have the University of North Carolina playing in the 2013 Belk Bowl,” said Will Webb, Belk Bowl Executive Director. “The Tar Heels finished the season very strong, as did the University of Cincinnati, and should provide a great matchup on the field. We are proud to host North Carolina family and fans in Charlotte for the 2013 Belk Bowl.”

“I’m excited for our team, especially our seniors, who fought through some early season adversity and won five of the last six games to become bowl eligible,” said North Carolina Head Coach Larry Fedora.  “This is a resilient bunch of guys that kept believing in one another throughout the year and I’m glad they were rewarded with a bowl game. We’re looking forward to facing a very good Cincinnati team led by an outstanding coach in Tommy Tuberville, and playing another game this season in our home state.”
