Arkansas Will Face #18 Virginia Tech in 2016 Belk Bowl


Charlotte, N.C. – The Belk Bowl announced today that the Arkansas Razorbacks will face the #18 Virginia Tech Hokies in the 2016 Belk Bowl. Both teams will be making their first appearance in the game. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 29th with the game televised by ESPN. For the 2016 Belk Bowl, Arkansas is designated the away team and Virginia Tech is designated the home team.

Both teams have tremendous, enthusiastic fans that should make the 2016 Belk Bowl very memorable. We look forward to hosting the teams and their fans in Charlotte!”
 
“College football is always exciting, and this year’s season didn’t disappoint with big surprises that kept fans on our toes week to week,” said Lisa Harper, CEO of Belk. “We’re thrilled to have Arkansas and Virginia Tech join us at the Belk Bowl on Dec. 29 and can’t wait to welcome all football fans to Charlotte for an exciting matchup of these two great schools.”
 
Arkansas finished the season with a 7-5 overall record (3-5 SEC). They finished tied for fourth in the SEC West Division. The Razorbacks recorded victories over then-ranked #15 TCU, 41-38, #12 Ole Miss, 34-30, and #11 Florida, 31-10. They were one of only two teams to score more than 16 points this season against #1-ranked Alabama, losing 49-30.
 
Virginia Tech finished the season with a 9-4 overall record (6-2 ACC) and are the ACC Coastal Division Champions. The Hokies won five of their last six regular season games to earn a berth in the Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game, pushing Clemson University to the limit in a 42-35 loss. Tech’s current bowl streak of 24 consecutive seasons is the longest active streak recognized by the NCAA.
 
College football’s only bowl game to call the Carolinas home, the Belk Bowl has long-term partnerships in place with Belk, ESPN, the ACC and the SEC, all through 2019. The game is played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. Individual tickets for the 2016 Belk Bowl are on sale through Ticketmaster and the participating schools. 
 
Multi-Grammy and Country Music Awards winner Tim McGraw will be the headline act at the 2016 Belk Bowl FanFest Concert. Free to the public on gameday, FanFest will take place in uptown Charlotte on Mint Street , Romare Bearden Park, and in BB&T Ballpark. FanFest festivities begin at 11 a.m. with McGraw’s performance inside BB&T Ballpark scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
Fans MUST purchase a Belk Bowl game ticket or Super Fan Package to be eligible to attend the Tim McGraw concert inside BB&T Ballpark. Concert vouchers will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be given out only to the first 10,000 fans that show their official Belk Bowl game tickets at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office during the two redemption days. The redemption days are Wednesday, Dec. 28th from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 29th from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. Please note there are limited quantities of concert vouchers available each day.
